How many of you on this thread criticizing Coach Tony Skole are members of the Diamond Dogs and/or TCBF?? That's what I thought...now piss off.

Looks like a lot of sentimental guys wanted skole back too. Losing all time record in college baseball with a recruiting coordinator who has his first paid job. Guys who get their first paid job typically dont get that title.

Secondly, just because I have been a member here for a couple days does not give you the right to call out a fellow citadel alum for posting about the baseball team. Maybe that's the only thing that I care about sports wise there. And to be 10-32 with 0 road wins is pretty embarrassing.

Just bc you support the team financially doesnt give you the right to tell someone to piss off bc they disagree with you. What if I cant afford to pony up $500 to support the club at this moment? Believe me I would if I could.

ElCidSports61 - In reality my $ DOES give me the right to tell you that...get some skin in the game and you might get a seat at the table....Until then your opinion is worthless.

Yeah, I smell a troll. Bro, ANY donation is welcome. They would appreciate your spare change. Recruiting Coordinator did a pretty good job finding TRUE freshman named Tyler Corbin who is hitting .337 and starting every game since arriving on campus. Get off your arse and do better. Skoles deserves a chance. Oh, and YOU are calling out a fellow Citadel Alum. Skoles wears The Ring too and deserves a fair chance. Or, save up your nickels and buyout his contract. You are obviously a Jordan fanboy. Jordan was a great coach, in the day, but any high school coach in the state can tell you he stopped recruiting years ago. A new coach does not automatically start getting recruits from schools that have been ignored for years. Get back to your GOT re-runs, Troll.

I havent said one word about fred Jordan. All I have been trying to say is I personally dont think we made a good hire and it is embarrassing to see the team at 10-32. I understand he deserves a chance and I have not said anything since he got hired until now when year 2 is almost over. I'm not trying to ruffle people's feathers, bc I know you have put your money in the program and you are probably not happy with the results either.

I just dont think we made a good hire and I hope he proves me wrong

WE didn't hire him. The Citadel did. And the folks that did the hiring are far more qualified to make that choice than WE are. Give the man a chance. I guess WE can sit back and wait for you to bash ALL of our other non-winning teams. We have plenty.

When Skole was hired, his record as a HC was a red flag for me, but I am willing to give him a chance.

As I said in an earlier post on this thread:

He gets a mulligan again this year, but needs this team needs to be CLOSE to .500 next year, & over .500 in 2020-2021, for me to say Skole is getting this program headed in the right direction.

As a lifelong fan of The Citadel athletics, I was under the assumption that this blog was created to discuss the good and bad of all of the athletic programs. I didn't realize that being a financial supporter was a requirement to have an opinion on discussed subjects. As a fifty year football season ticket holder and twenty plus year Generals Club member, I don't see the need to criticize bloggers who support the school in any way they choose. It is the holier than thou types that make these discussions difficult. The baseball program has been dead for at least 5 years. Skole needs some time so we will see what happens. We sure could use a shortstop who could play a little defense and hit a little. The program will never be where it was in the past but can win a little. Play-in game assured once again.

My beef is not whether someone donates or not. But to climb on here and bash a man who was handed a dumpster fire of a program/team is ridiculous and unfair. Sorry, Jax, but a guy's first two posts ever (at least under his latest alias) is to call a coach a loser is beneath all of us. So, it is perfectly ok to ask this troll where he has "skin in the game". Is he a supporter? No indication of ANY type of support.

Yeah, I care about our program and what is said about our new coach. Some things to consider:

Fact: June of 2017 Tony Skole walked into a house that was stripped down the studs, and it had termite trouble.

Fact: Class of 2021 on our team was signed by Jordan. Those were not Tony Skole's signees. There's nothing he could do to change that when he was hired 60 days before the Class of 2021 reported . So 2018 was year 0. 2019 is year 1 of his regime in my book. It's also the year with his 1st recruiting class on campus.

Fact: I will try to be as diplomatic as I can be. At times there have been 7 out of 9 players on the field that are Class of 2022 or 2021. What does that tell you about the junior and senior class? Mind you there a few bright spots among them. However, there's a lot of the 11.7 scholarships tied up in folks that have no impact on the field. And yes you can improve kids with coaching. But if you could argue that a kid shouldn't have been offered any money to begin with, then how much will coaching have them ready to compete in our league?

Fact: When this current staff arrived College Park looked worse than Tiger Stadium in Detroit 2 years after the stands were demolished. There was nothing that was in working order to take recruits and their families around campus (put a family on an athletic dept. golf cart, and it would break down.) The coaches offices and waiting room area in the field house had not been touched in almost 30 years. The couches, etc., in the waiting area were in disrepair. Ripped and stained. Imagine trying to recruit the baseball player of today with those sort of visuals. The good news is the Diamond Dogs Club funds, with some financial and logistical help from the athletic department, has either fixed or has a plan to fix these issues very soon.

Fact: During the interview process to replace Jordan, Coach Skole was head and shoulders above any candidate interviewed. Some pretty influential baseball alumni backed him as well. One of them lives in Louisville, and the other lives in Starkville, MS.

If you know anything about those two, then you know they are fierce competitors, and all business when it comes to winning. They would never lobby for a teammate to get this job if he wasn't skilled enough to do it. Sorry I'll follow their lead before I follow what anyone thinks on here.

ETSU? Cut his scholarship allotment when they joined the SoCon. Played in a dump field for years. He spearheaded getting them into a new park which jump started a rise in the program. And the program he left, led by a former assistant, carried on doing quite well.

Defensive woes. Cannot deny it. But riddle me this. When was the last time we had freshman starting in our middle infield? My bet, and I could be wrong, is that these two will be different players two years from now. You don't improve sitting the bench. You have to get out there and get your uniform dirty.

So yes. IT S*CKS RIGHT NOW! You all are not going to like this....but don't expect any noticeable improvement until the 2021 season. Graduation and recruiting are the two things that will advance this program. I take that back graduation, recruiting, and funding (Diamond Dogs Members) are the three things that will advance this program.

Really hung up on the "two" posts aren't you? Just because I have made two posts doesnt mean I dont have deep roots in the program, so dont go down that road.

And yes he was handed a dumpster fire, however it is still a dumpster fire, two years later. I would love nothing more than to see this team win as I actually am a big advocate of the program. Just disappointed in the results so far and want it turned around. The citadel baseball has a winning tradition and we should be better than we have been the past 5 years.

Yeah, I am hung up on them. Did you expect a big pat on the back? Stand forever, yielding never, Sport! A little optimism and encouragement for a program that is trying to improve goes a long way. Kick in. They would love your HELP to get where you want them to be.

• I do not have the Ring (In fact, I am an alumnus of a College on the other side of town.)
• I do not make donations to the Citadel
• I do not know anything about the inner-workings of the Citadel Athletic Department

Coincidentally,
• My wife received her graduate degree from the Citadel
• In High School, I was coached by Fred Jordan
• I grew up with at least one of the folks that was on the selection committee for Mr. Skole
• I have watched a lot of Citadel baseball games this season

This ball club is difficult to watch this year. I think it is harder to watch this team as opposed to last year’s club. In a lot of instances they fail to make routine plays. I have witnessed so many bunting errors, missed ground balls, errant throws, and catches. These plays are not difficult, they are makeable. In short, they struggle with the routine. What is strange is that while these players may not be superstars, they were the best players on their high school teams.

Why are they missing plays that could be accomplished in their sleep? In my estimation, this is the result of the approach utilized by the coaching staff. For whatever reason, the players are apprehensive. The players are underachieving and that is the result of coaching. It’s plain and simple. You can blame Jordon, the facilities, the difficulty of recruiting at the Citadel, or the generation of kids playing today - WHATEVER.

I have never met Mr. Skole. He had a storied career while playing at the Citadel. I am sure he is a good guy who has good intentions but the reality is that his methods aren’t working.

None of you should be surprised, a quick google search on Skole produced this: https://csnbbs.com/thread-778811.html

It appears that the Citadel recycled a problem. The Citadel got what was advertised. (You are what your record is.)

I am most disappointed for the young men playing. The Citadel community deserves better!

Ironic that "some other college grad" coincidentally finds this group AND makes his first post right on top of the other "new member". TROLLS, GFY!

I have been called worse...[biggrin]

That was my first post, but I've been reading for a while.

I really do hope the program is able to find is way back to winning.  Especially for the sake of the players and their families who have invested more than any donor could.
