I'm not sure we can afford a shoot out.  Samford had a couple of 50+ point games and TO isn't designed for that. (but Wofford keep them to 21)

Our young QB did a great job, and had some good runs and some timely on target passes.  Overall though, my perspective was that we just weren't as sharp as we could have been with Rainey.  That has nothing to do with Brian, but Rainey has some much more experience, and I hope he is ready for Saturday.   Watching him limp around with a headset on Saturday evening didn't give me a lot of confidence he will be ready, but training staffs can work miracles nowadays.  If it's Brian, he'll man up I figure if he gets the most of the snaps this week.

I still kinda concerned about our defensive backfield. I'm an old tired guy now and don't know much about playing DB, but is it just me, or are our DBs in general not turning around and continue to keep they heads on the receivers?  Seem we had the opportunity the last couple of weeks to get interceptions or at least break ups if they would have just turned around.

Also, looked like two sure interceptions that weren't caught. With only one INT this season by my count, hope we can get the boys to pull those in.

Lots of arm chair QB'ing, but bottom line is we won.  Just don't want to get into a major gunslinging fight with Samford.  Need to hold them to 21 or less in my humble opinion until the offense consistently cranks 300+ rushing games.

I agree about DBs not turning around. Face guarding is allowed in college, but seems they need to read the receiver’s eyes and turn around for INT potential. Especially when they have great coverage are are all over the receiver - which they have been and allowed receptions. Surely they are being coached up on this.

agree with above comments about the DBs, I have played and coached secondary and I would say its the toughest position in football; that said the first rule is play the ball not the receiver, most college and pro DBs are so busy hand checking and grabbing the receiver they don't ever bother to look for the ball.  I think we are having problems with blown coverages since in some instances opposing recievers are left wide open.  Again key for us in this kind of game is keep the offense on the field with long drives, opponent cant score if they don't have the ball.

The intangible in this game is the endless creativity of Coach Hatcher... who is the most talented coach in the SoCon at finding innovative ways to lose to The Citadel, no matter who he is coaching or how good they are

Samford's projected starters on the offensive line average 309 lbs. That reminds me a lot of Towson's offensive line -- and Brent Thompson has compared Oladokun to Tom Flacco, too.

So that is your offensive comparison, except Towson doesn't run plays quite as quickly as Samford does.

He did win three times against us when he was at Georgia Southern. It's kind of easy to forget that at times, mainly because he was fired immediately after the last game (as in, while the team was still in the locker room).

I’ll give those inbreds In Statesboro one thing. They hate “basketball on a football field.” They didn’t run him out as fast as VanGorder, but it was just about as ugly.
