Dogs playing good, could play better but the long lay off may be the cause.

After leading by 16, 41-25 with under 2 minutes remaining in the 1st half, DAWGs give up 10 straight to Sammy to end the half only up by 6, 41-35.

Sammy shooting is HORRIBLE!  No excuse to lose this game after leading by 16.

DAWGs should feel right at home as attendance looks like one of our home games.

We aren’t scoring to finish this game and the Refs decided to make the last minute their show.

DAWGs blow 2 double digit leads and throw up all over themselves to lose by 1, 69-68.

How many double digit leads has this team blown, and ending up losing the game in the Baucom era?!?!?!?!?

Sammy played TERRIBLE and still beat us!

No scoring in the end ... the last minute was the ref show though, Sanford didn’t win this nor did The Citadel lose it. Still a minute left if you ask me.

Brown still not healthy. And the other two three injuries, are huge factors this season. If Brown is healthy, this is a different game. A healthy Higgins would give some much needed help as well.

All the Baucom noise is just that. Let’s face it...2 of our best returning players (Kern for the year and Brown for the year, if they don’t shut him down long term to heal) aren’t playing. Add those two to The Big 3 from last year and that’s probably 85% of the 18-19 scoring. DB has some commitments and hopefully the freshman stay so that 20-21 is better. As I asked last year...WHO do you think that’s actually BETTER than DB will come here? The expectations of some fans aren’t realistic...The Bulldogs have NEVER “Danced.” It’s a good fit with DB and until I hear a valid replacement to improve our situation, I’m fine with continuing to support him and the team

I totally agree with Proud. I think DB is doing all he can do. I like the kids he brings in and they play hard and represent the school well. Yes, I was frustrated we lost that game today. I haven’t yet but I will travel to watch them play several games. My w/l expectations are probably not as high as most of you although I always think we can have a surprise year. Now baseball is another matter and I will defer to another time and thread.

Everything that "ProudDodDad" & "Upstatedog" said is all fine & dandy, but, like any other job you are expected to produce results.  If not, then you are replaced and the boss brings in some one else.

Bottom line is that in sports, results are defined in "Ws" and "Ls". For Citadel Sports, coaches are given 5 years to show improvement and produce more "Ws" than "Ls", and Baucom has not done that.

Meh ... This year is a bust. And it isn’t Duggar’s fault. Injuries are the issue. I want to what he does with the big freshman he brought in and how a Abee develops ... I had a higher bar for this season, but with Kern and Brown out, I have to recalibrate my expectations.

From what I saw today, we have a few wins to go. Unless there is some glaring character issue brewing from DB that rivals Pat Dennis, I am good to see him coach at least another season.

No excuses. Injuries are a part of the game. He will have had 5 years. If even 1 of those years had shown improvement, then maybe another year.

Didn't catch it live so watched the last 8 mins. on replay.

Up 65-52 with 08:00 on the clock, Samford ball...

Samford gets a fortunate 50/50 block/charge call - puts Allen on the line.  Misses both and we shoot ourselves in the foot by stepping in the lane early on the 2nd attempt.  Second shot good.  Dawgs up, 65-53, with 07:56 left.

Live-ball TO vs. their press leads to a driving Sharkey layup.  Citadel leads by 10 (65-55) with 07:35 left.

Self-inflicted wound count: 2.

Rice misses a 3 off a DHO from Tyson.  Thought he got fouled.  Samford clears the rebound.

Sharkey hesitation move going left - converts the hoop and the harm.  Cuts lead to 8 with 06:50 - misses FT.  65-57, Citadel ball.

Rice gets the ball stripped going 1v1 after offense stagnates in the halfcourt.  Samford gets steal.

SIW's: 3.

Beautiful press break leads to an open 3 miss by Abee on the other end.  This is how we play - a make there and the lead is back up to four possessions.

Batiste charge gives ball back to Samford with 05:05 on clock - kid with that much exp. has to see that and make the right play.  Still up 7.

SIW's?: 4.

Samford makes 1/2 FTs after a rushed runner from Harris goes long.  Dawgs up 6.

Batiste pushoff gives the ball back to Sam. with 3:31 on the clock and Citadel holding onto a two possession lead.

SIW's: 5.

Rice buries a 3 late in the clock to put Citadel up NINE with 2:22 left.

Three ticks later, Samford scores on a runout as their big beats everyone up the floor.  Citadel up 68-61 with 2:19 to play.

SIW's: 6.

Alex Reed misses front end of a 1-and-1 with 2:13 to go.

SIW's: 7.

Samford knocks down an open 3 from the left wing.  Four point game with 2 min. left.

Citadel gets a crucial stop with 1:20 left.  Abee stripped (?) from behind and Allen converts a layup to cut our lead to 2 with just over a minute to play.  68-66, Citadel.

Citadel whistled for a tech, somehow, on the scrum.  Sharkey ties game with two made FTs.

Charge on Reed.

SIW's: 8.

Padgett wins the game from the FT line.

Yes, we squandered a game we should have won.  But the answers lie on the little mistakes that added up over the last eight mins.

1.  Lane violation on missed Samford FT.
2.  Live ball TO vs. their press gives them a layup.
3.  Rice live ball TO.
4.  Batiste charge.
5.  Another Batiste charge.
6.  Not getting back on D after hitting a dagger 3.
7.  Reed misses front end of 1 and 1.
8.  Reed charge.

Self-inflicted wounds cost us this one.  Let's turn it around in Charleston on Saturday.
