I've been a Bulldog fan for decades, and will remain so until I'm dead. Before that happens, I reserve the right to b**tch and moan about basketball and any other sport where we habitually struggle.

We've been stinking it up since the start of conference play- and it is fairly inexplicable at this point, given how we played in the early season. So to expect TRUE fans to not complain on the one forum we have is a little ridiculous.

But that isn't why I'm posting. It is because this isn't the first time a parent has signed up to come on and complain about the complaining. That's all fine and good but someone who registered just this week and has a grand total of 3 posts (all complaining) probably isn't a very good arbiter of who a "TRUE FAN" is.

I can't speak to Proud Dad and his motives or fandom.  I'm sure as a parent, I would be heavily bought into a coach and likely offended if I read some of our comments ... To Baucom, we all want Citadel Basketball to succeed.  I doubt any of us really care who gets it done.

Baucom has another year on his contract.  He will finish this season and have next season to prove he is the guy for The Citadel (We never fire a coach mid-contract).  I can't find the details of Baucom's contract, but if it is anything like Chucky D's (his predecessor), then all he has to do is win.  He does that, most of us will shut up.

Chucky D contract incentives (related to winning, at least what I could find ... https://www.postandcourier.com/sports/driesell-will-earn-base-salary-of-k-per-year/article_6b8e5bea-bbe2-5325-a6e2-dfa17ced79d6.html) -

Winning the Southern Conference regular season or tournament title: $10,000 each, $20,000 for both
Making the NCAA Tournament’s “round of 64″: $7,500
Being named SoCon coach of the year: $10,000
Winning overall or SoCon record: Up to a bonus of $5,000 and as many as two one-year extensions of his contract
... There are other incentives for team performance and academics.

At the Citadel, winning records = contract extensions ... I think Brent Thompson's and Tony Skole have the same type of incentives in their contract ...

How Many winning Seasons has Citadel Basketball ever Had????? The Team is currently 11-12 with 6 games to go... We have to have a realistic expectations around here to be honest. We have 4 Teams in the Top 65 RPI. There is conversation that the SoCon might be a 2 Bid League which has never happen before. The conference RPI is 10 out of 32 conferences, That is a high level of basketball getting played in the SoCon right now. The last time we won 20 games 2008-2009 season the conference RPI was 23. So you really have to look at the big picture. I would love to see this team finish 6 or 7 in league and win a game or two in the tournament.

No argument here about what you are saying, BUT -

In the 6 losses against the top 4 teams in the SOCON (Woffy (2), Vermin (2), ETSU, & UNCG), the average margin of defeat ha been 23.8 points per game.

The point is that this team has under performed expectations.  We have a veteran team that was finally supposed to be competitive with the top teams in the SOCON.  I  don't think you'd hear any complaints from anyone on this board if the loses to the top 4 teams had been by 10 or less points, we had beaten WCU, Sammy, & Chatty and were in 5th place in the SOCON with a 6-6 record in conference play instead of languishing near the bottom of the conference (as usual) with a 3-9 conference record.

Well, the good news is that we're in 7th, instead of 10th.  Gotta find that positive somewhere!
