We have 2 ladies who can't break 100. Can they really be on scholarship? We can't find anyone in golf-filled SC who can at least be around 90! This is sad. Do away with them and go for a growing lacrosse ferver. Can't get any worse (don't look at the other women's sports).

I heard a rumor that we've given scholarships to HS seniors who aren't even HS golfers just to fill out a team. If true......I would rather see varsity lacrosse, rugby or ice hockey.

We had a girl a few years back who shot in the 160's in a tournament. That had to be a humiliating experience.

Women's golf is mucho cheaper to run & field than those other sports. I think yall are just jealous they get to play golf every day. I know I am. It's a tough deal, As there is only about 30 woman's team that are actually any good. I say we support them the best we can.

84, just making an observation. Will support all of our student-athletes. Jealous? Absolutely. Play weekly but never enough!

I just wish they would be more competitive in the SoCon. Nobody is asking them to win the national championship or anything, but I think there has only been one year in the league tournament in which they were even close to avoiding last place. Signed, A non-golfer

Not only does our golf team finish last in EVERY tournament they play, they routinely finish 40 - 50 strokes behind the next to last place team. Usually there is only 40 - 50 strokes between the team that won the tournament & the team that finished 1 place ahead of ours (next to last place team).

Personally, I like having football.
Therefore I don't care if we have a quadriplegic on scholarship to play golf. Yes, it would be nice to actually field serious women's teams, but the reality is that we have no choice but to field them no matter how bad they are. I'm not being down on the women, just realistic.

well guess what folks, we have womens golf only because we have to in order to meet the minimum number of sports offered to comply with Title IX. The main reason we dropped mens golf and soccer was to save money AND to help equalize the numbers between mens and womens sports. Note that we do not have some of the more major womens sports like field hockey, basketball and softball; thats simply because we dont have the money. Its sad to have a sport just for the sake of having it but you gotta do what you gotta do.

But to give an athletic scholarship to someone that is not even remotely qualified to receive said scholarship to play that sport!?!?!?!??! Really?!?!?!?!?! C'mon man! Would you pay someone to do work on your car or house that had never done that work before?????? There's got to be a better way!

We may not like it but it the requirement to be in compliance with Title 9. Dumb but it is the law.

I agree Mo, there has to be some good female golfers out there who want to play for a D-1 school; sounds like the coach isnt making enough of an effort with recruiting.

I see you can watch the golf team's swings. They all look like they are pretty good. However, they are not competitive. I don't know how well golf is funded, but if they are full scholarships, maybe we should recruit a couple of women from Korea. It looks like Northwestern, the NCAA runner- up, gets their entire team from Asia. I would never go that far, but maybe we have someone in the military that could find out where they practice and recruit a couple. Maybe, she or he would have to be on the staff to meet NCAA rules, but somehow others are able to figure it out. I think the best Korean women players go to the LPGA. The next level come to the U.S. to play college golf. So, if we could get a couple of good players we could at least get get to the middle of the pack. Then maybe we could recruit better overall. I know Charleston is a long way from home for them, but we probably are better represented in Korea than anyone except the academies.

I will go high school here. Give me the womens head coaching gig and I promise in two years we won't finish last and I will teach a subject at the school.
