Not a “rubbing it in” post.

Just surprised I didn’t see this on here. Sure you all know that Chad Staggs - FU Defensive Coordinator is 6-0. SIX AND O. Vs the Citadel. Both at Charleston Southern and last two years at Furman. Even when you all had the great win over USC a few years ago Staggs CSU teams won over Citadel twice - that’s amazing because that (see I am being nice 😀) was a GREAT Citadel team!!.

Staggs has yet to lose to Citadel. I checked and your 17 today is the lowest point output of your season as was our holding Woff to 14. Staggs held Wofford way down.

You all did better than Woff bc you were tougher in the middle when you were in offense ..You came straight at us. We are better at speed on D getting to edges . I think we shut your option down on edges pretty well but you had strong runs up middle. We were really limited on O. Your D penetration was great and our backup QBs just aren’t ready yet. When other two QBs in front of him are healthy I bet he switches position

Kudos to your DL on penetration. We are too predictable w third string QB

81, I am a fan but please stop. Playing sloppy and making stupid mistakes is called losing. To say anything else is embarrassing. We just lost even as annoying as Furman is. Trust me, their winning does not make them less anoying.
BTW, ETSU beat WC in 3OT.

Just wondering what changes if any could or should be made for final four games. Like JB but maybe time to see what Rainey can do.Also seems we are more intent on stripping ball than getting dinner on ground.

Would love to see some other QB's get some reps...really liked how we opened up the offense a bit.  Actually thought we should have run a couple of times when we passed, but not going to complain. Now to get our pass routes and route running into the 21st century...Will be there next week.  Go Dogs!!

Watching the replay instead of live, we have a hard time with one-on-one open field tackling. BT was a little more than frustrated in post game interview. Took responsibility for not finishing. 7-13 in the last 20 games. Disheartening. Keep fighting, Dogs!

Two or three of those wins came with 15 - 20  mercenaries who had no business playing college ball and/or didn't have the grades to get into a college. Don't know how Furman admin feels about Staggs now that we know how the sausage was made but he is a good defensive coach against the option.

He is also in the record books for having the longest pass in The Citadel's history tossed against him but I am off subject.

Congrats on a good win.

Time to move on.
This year is now only a learning experience for our young team.

Let's start using the freshmen who have 4 games and can still redshirt.

Would love to see someone else try the QB position for a few, if not more, series. Is it Middleton who is the sensation? How about Rainey when we need the few yards on 4th down? McCarthy? J Smith?

Never thought I'd say this but I miss Dom Allen at QB. We've had so many short, crucial 4th down plays this year that could have turned a game, if f we'd have converted them.
Dom usually got those type 4th downs because of his strength and physicality. Remember him following the B-back many times for 2 yards or more.

J Black was supposed to give us dynamic running, but frankly I haven't seen so much of that. A few but not many. Plus he can't carry guys for an extra 2-3 yards after first contact.
His arm is good, and I can just imagine his effectiveness throwing if we had some plays out of the shotgun. When he can see the field, and not pressured, he is effective.

We need to start finishing people off after a first hit on defense. Better tackling.
Opposing RB who are big and bruising seem to be our Achilles heal.

One thing that gets under my skin is those opposing team drives usually towards the end of games, sometimes when we've just scored, and it seems the other team wants it more than we do. You can clearly see it on game feeds.
Wofford and this Furman game come to mind.

Like McCarthy at WR... he is a natural athlete and I am glad we are putting him in even if not at QB.

I vote give Rainey a shot this week.  JB isn't impressing me much these days.  lots of pitch options where he kept it, knowing that had he pitched it we would have gained more yards.  That TO football... three options not one called QB keeper...

I agree, let's go with Rainey!  Looking for "inspired leadership" at the QB Position.  That can make the difference, especially in these tight conference games where we continue to come up short.  No more "tentative" play/leadership, be able to improvise when things go wrong or 1st option isn't there ...just to be able to keep the chains moving on the 3rd and 2s, or 4th and 1s would be huge!

I question JBs priorities, seems his twitter feed is more about his GF and USAF (glad he is commissioning).  I pray he finishes out the year strong.

Other wise we have NOTHING to loose by playing Rainey... more than likely he is our QB1 next year unless they push for Middleton to be the starter the next 3-4 years, which I am perfectly happy with given his reputation.  BUT, and I say BUT a QB like Dom Allen at 230lbs is what we want in our current offense.  We are spreading the ball out more and I like that if the QB-WR game is on point which this year is has been very questionable.  RW will be tightly covered this week after his 91 yard bomb last week.

PLEASE JB PITCH THE BALL to the guy who has 20-30lbs on you and can get the 3-6 additional YAC yards you are NOT getting.

Now that you say it, I think your dead on! JB is a good kid, good young man with a good future ahead of him, happy for him. But he played this season like he had already "punched the clock"! Already achieved his goals, about to be commissioned, just happy being "the starter" , trying not to get hurt, playing tentatively, etc. He was anointed "leader of the team" , but when your annointed leader just plays like he's going through the motions, especially at that position, you end up on the wrong side of close games, with a 2-5 record. Sure the defense has had its challenges this season being young, etc. But even so we've still been just one or two plays away from being 6-1, or 5-2. Let's give Rainey a shot, hopefully he will play like a hungry QB and win a couple of games for The Team The Coaches, and The Seniors that still actually give a damn and give their all every game.

Part the problem is poor blocking on the perimeter from Wr’s and A backs. O line, while improved isn’t their yet. It’s not all on JB. Dom was the qb last year and we were ineffective.

Agreed! It is a Team Sport! But have to give OLine credit for performing much better than last season.

Agree 100% with improved O-line. They are going to be solid.
