Sounds about right. I don’t disagree with his assessment.

Man, what could have been. I don’t think a win over Wofford next week changes anything but I’ll be rooting like hell for the Keydets just in case.

The analysis & assessment is spot on.  Man, we really screwed the pooch on Saturday.  Tough pill to swallow all around - fans, players, coaching staff.

It's more than 24 hours later & I'm still pissed, not because we lost, but how we lost.  Sometimes you need to fail so you can do bigger & better things in the future.  I hope that's the case here & the players and coaches learn from this, work that much harder in the off season, and can win a championship in 2020.

We don’t need more motivation to have chips on our shoulders. We got plenty of that last year and the year before. This was supposed to be a breakout year.

But - we did improve quite a bit, and every game we played was winnable.

I see a lot of frustration with coaching decisions here and I’m frustrated too. But I feel like for the first time we have a compass with this program. We are running the offense we wanted, we have a coach who is a learned student of that offense, and he has showed that he can recruit.

At the end of the day, what we have seen the last two seasons is a decline in our defense which began with the departure of Maurice Drayton. Our offense can reliably move the ball but our defense cannot reliably get off the field and our secondary is a sieve. Our offense is fine but in order to wear people down it needs to be on the field longer. If we can improve our defense we will be a regular playoff team with this offense and with this coach.

Our win and their loss, would be both UTC and us have 3 CONF losses... if a 3rd SOCON Team gets in our SOC might put us over the edge, but that still means Furman would get in as a shared CONF winner..  our only saving grace would be the GT win.

But, i just want to put a hurting on Wofford next week at home.  with that i am happy how the season turned out.  End it with a W and i feel we have motivation going into next year.

I agree.. all this year when a QB is in the pocket and goes back for a pass i would turn away.  We put a lot of effort into D in last years recruiting class.  Some of those had some PT this year within the 4 game RS rule.  So we should see some improvement.  I like our new DL and our LB is strong also.  Willie E hopefully will anchor the D again next year as he has another year of eligibility.  The DBs are a concern and must improve.  We need to to groom another D Delaney who we can put on the opposing teams primary stand out receiver to shut him down, then use the other DBs to shift to their other receivers to force plays too.

I like Faulkner and Beverly to continue to grow, also Destin Mack has started to become a stand out.  we have talent, they are just young and will continue to grow.

Another factor is attrition, who will leave and who will come back.  that is always the X factor we have to deal with at our Mighty Citadel.

Boy, that guy on AnyGivenSaturday really did some work!
As the consistent "Glass Half Full" guy, just piling on the Playoffs discussion.  Most of the many FCS sites still have us at least in discussion as a long shot, but nobody is calling us out.  I seen some sites which say we might make it with the Wofford win (and a VMI win would help too). Regardless of what has transpired in this too quick football season, there is little doubt in my military mind that we WILL bear Wofford this weekend at home.
So, I believe there is a chance.  I constantly decry the 5 team playoff slots for "Power 3" FCS teams, and have no idea how the middle of some of those CAA, Patiot, and Missouri Valley teams get it.  Just seems to be some prejudice for them over the rest of the pack, when they have 7 win teams getting in.  Look at CAA last year - I believe it was 5 teams they got in and 4 were gone Week 1.  Those three conferences do have some strong 1-3 teams but the rest of them are just as average as in every other conference in my lowly opinion.
I think because of the prejudgment for those "big" conferences it will be tough for the Dogs to get in with 7 wins.  BUT, one is a P5, and if we beat both Furman and Wofford, our conference ranked teams, it has to mean something.  I have even seen a couple of sites mention that Furman has no "signature" wins, so are they worthy?  After all, they lost to both Wofford and us.
What say y'all?

Take care of Wofford and we will have shot.  But i hope the guys are thinking about Wofford and not playoffs.  Win big this weekend and the chips will fall where they will.  If we get in then good.  If we dont then this season was a great improvement from the last two and honestly we have a large majority of starters coming back.

We don't lose many on defense that is for sure and there is depth at every spot but corner. Red-shirted some kids and then some kids click after 1, 2 or 3 years. We have always been a developmental program and we need to play with 3,4 and 5 year guys.

And retention, retention, retention.

Losing Buffalo was a major setback for the secondary just as losing Delaney really hurt; we are getting some bigger players but clearly need more speed at that position.  Eubanks will probably be the best defensive player in the SoCon next year and a major NFL prospect, he is another Brian Ruff only faster.  Best news will be getting Rainey, Webb and Harris back on offense.    Unfortunately I don't think a big win gets us a playoff spot, the SoCon is no longer considered a strong football league and thus in some minds not deserving of 3 playoff spots, I think Furman is probably a lock for an at large but 7 wins leaves us sitting precariously on the fence.  Pros - close loses to two Top 25 teams (and maybe to a potential Co-Champion) and an FBS win; Cons - poor showing against VMI and the 2 late meltdowns.  It will mostly depend on the records of the non champs, a glut of 8 and 9 win teams is bad news for us.

If people don’t want to do what you ask of them, then you wish them well in their future endeavors.

I think we’d all be better served to focus our attention on the ones that are here. Not the ones that have left.

Buffaloe is playing at FBS Bosie St...Wally Wilmore is gone but he would have been on that level as well.  When you lose 2/4 it hurts!  If those 2 are still with us that position would be a strength.

and if Jalen Hurts had stayed at Alabama, they'd still have a shot at the NC and if Justin Fields was still at Georgia instead of Ohio State, then Georgia might be ranked #1 or #2 instead of #4.

coulda, shoulda, woulda.

We tend to move freshman and 5th years often.  Hope that we can retain all the freshmen from this year.  some seemed to be standout material.
