I suppose it is of some importance to know what offense(s) drew the suspensions. Anyone know?

Updated to 5 players (Black, Ward, Sessions, Buffalo, & Brandon Berry) that were suspended "for a undisclosed violation of team rules".

Amazing we can go on the road and win 3 SOCON games, but not win at home.  Given the way things are going, if we can beat Samford on Homecoming, we'd be 4-4, an even .500 in conference, and I will take that.  Samford seems to have it together now, but it's home and it's time to defend it.

Also amazing, and I never would have imaged it, is that ETSU sits alone atop the SOCON.  Not so good for the SOCON headed to the playoffs because we have other teams who can probably do better against other FCS.  My take is we beat them in Charleston, but let some bad play calling and dumb bad luck let them get out with a W.  They are not the league's best team (but you can't argue with their record).

National FCS press is already assuming that Samford will beat us next week, and that those Bulldogs will head to ETSU for the de facto SOCON championship.  Let's make that not a reality.

Go Dogs!  Beat SAMFORD!OUR

It's been said, but I love the way Rainey played QB like the B back he was last year - that gave him a lot of running experience and he refuses to get knocked down at line of scrimmage.  Since he didn't know he was starting until Saturday morning, guess it was to be expected that his passing and rhythm with receivers would be a bit off, so we didn't go there (when you have 421 yards rushing you don't need many passes, huh?).  Black proved he can hit some passes, and it's nice to have that available if needed.  I would vote for Rainey to start, with perhaps some platooning with Black next week.

Anyone heard if the suspensions were for one week only?

Along with the rushing comment, did y'all that Army had a 13 minute, repeat 13 minute, TD drive against AF?

We need our best game of the season by our secondary, zero mistakes, and long, sustained drives to beat Samford.

ETSU is no surprise to me, really. The SoCon has been in decline for the last 4-5 years. Torbush is the perfect coach for starting up a program. Their rise and the conference's decline just met in the middle.

I'd put the SoCon somewhere around 4th or 5th place among all the playoff FCS conferences.

From thinking he was back-up to starting in a couple of hours makes Rainey's performance best of the year. The flip to Webb was perfect. Work on the pitch outs and get him 2 or 3 pass plays and send him out against Stamford. Start Harris with him. They both earned it. Boom Boom up the gut and oh shoot here they come around end and darn was that a pass? Black runs ok, but Rainey runs heavy and that seems to get other defenses down after a while.

ETSU has the same thing going for them that Mercer did a couple of years ago. You basically have two classes sitting on top of each other from a start up program and then those two classes have 3 to 4 years of playing experience. Next year will tell how well they are doing when they graduate those two classes.

Is this correct?

For the SoCon autobid, ETSU and Samford conrol their destiny. Either team wins out (both can’t), they get the autobid. Furman needs help from us, while Wofford needs help form Mercer and/or us.
