14-14 at the half with some interesting play calling.

We’re \ supposed to be the dominant team. Play our game and dominate.

3rd qtr.....VMI rolls the dice on 4th and 3 from their own 33 and turnover on downs. Dogs march down the field for a TD. 21-14 Bulldogs!

Defense....You’re up!!!!!!

We are not a triple option offense. We run FB dives mixed in with triple option plays.

We have:

1. Blocked a punt
2. Block an extra point attempt
3. Recovered a fumble
4. Intercepted a pass

Why do we only lead by 1 point, 21 - 20?!?!?!?!

Shouldn't we be up by 3 or 4 TDs!?!?!?!?!

I don’t know how many times this year we’ve blown any and all momentum and field position by going for a 4th down at mid field. We do it again in second half after we pick off VMI. It’s like Thompson doesn’t think we can win unless he makes some game changing call. It’s the other way around buddy. Play football. Take advantage of the things your good at. We have a good punter. We are not good at banging the ball up the middle in short yardage when the other team knows whats coming. Every game same stuff.

Thank heavens for our Special Teams today. We were whipped across most of the stat line by the Keydets.

Congrats to the Bulldog family for AGAIN winning the Shako.    Bulldogs made enough plays after VMI bonehead plays to hold on.    I don't know why VMI went for it on 4th and long from their own 30.......y'all converted that into a TD, just like after the blocked punt....

VMI QB set a school record for completed passes at 49 (I'll say that again, 49 completed passes), for 452 yards (and I'll say that again - 452 yards in the air).  That's why we barely won.  Though he lost, congrats to Udinski on that performance.

We have to do better in the D backfield against Samford or we'll get killed again (and I don't even want to think about ALA).

Enough negativism on my part.  Great win, the team retains the Shako.  They got the turnovers when they needed them.  Nice bus ride home.

Is it just me or do others see that our A-backs frequently gets beat to the corner by faster DBs or the other A-back/WR misses a key block resulting in 1 - 3 yard gains instead of 7 - 9 yard gains?

That's probably why we run the B-back up the middle so much: A-back can't get to the edge.

Our defense has gotten progressively worse since the coaching change.

Let me beat that dead horse. The reason we can't get to the edge is we have no team speed. Last time I'm going to address that subject. We got the win and hope to get a couple more. OK maybe one.

We don’t have consistent blocking on the perimeter either, and it seems like our speed guys slow down prior to contact. I’d take a Terrell Dallas type that made you pay when you tackled him over just speed. The guy VMI had was running through tackles, made him look faster than he was because he was getting up field.

I’m the other side of the ball, speed gets you only so far, doesn’t matter how fast if you aren’t in position.

Maybe we need faster a backs but slower WR’s who can block. But at the end of the day, you have to figure out what works best with who you have.

It’s easy to blame coaching, I’m the first to do so when something doesn’t go our way during the game. But it does seem to me that we have hurt ourselves in all of the close games by a questionable coaching call. Play calling is what it is, but to me it’s the 4th down calls where we go for it instead of playing for field position. Especially early in games. Opposing offenses have to play relatively more conservative when deep inside their own territory. That at least helps our defense on 1st and 2nd downs. Gives us a chance to maybe get the ball back with decent field position. It seems that too many times this year we’ve lost all momentum and field position by failing to convert on 4th down.

I honestly believe we could .500 or better right now if not for a couple of those calls.

We aren’t great by any stretch, but we aren’t terrible either. We just don’t play to our strengths. It’s like Thompson some times plays to what he wants our strengths to be. Or even that he’s trying to hard, over thinking things.

At the end of the day, we won Saturday. As long as we can that on Sundays, all is well!

Go Dogs, my Sunday morning, too much coffee rambling is through
