With 3 SOCON games still left this year, Baucom has a 4 year SOCON record of 15 - 54 for a 27.8% winning percentage.

Basically, looking at the record in the SOCON, there has been no improvement from year 1 to year 4.

Finish out the contract in 2019-2020, & then start over again with a new coach, unless we go undefeated in the SOCON & win the SOCON tourney.  Then, MAYBE give him 1 more year.

We have a few games left ... need to support these guys to finish out ...

The only thing I find interesting is that Duggar is the first coach since Pat Dennis’ 1992-1998 seasons to win 4 or more consecutive double digit games each season. ... not saying one way or another ... this season has a lot of what ifs; so many close losses, 2 major injuries, etc ... 3 more wins and a tournament win or two, and I think we are talking something different.

Next season, Higgins has big shoes to fill (can he?), Georgiadis will have a great opportunity to replace Najdawi (he has a bit more size) ... the question is Friarson? ... and what happened to Williams (hurt?) ...

I wrote this on 29 March 2015, after it was announced that Baucom was hired to replace Chucky D:

"Jeff Hartsell's article in the P&C confirms that there w/ be a news conference tomorrow to announce the hiring of Baucom.

 http://www.postandcourier.com/article/20150328/PC20/150329296/1177/reports-citadel-to-hire-vmi-x2019-s-duggar-baucom-as-basketball-coach

While I don't necessarily disagree w/ hiring Baucom, I do know a thing or 2 about hiring people and making personnel decisions, and just don't think that Baucom is the "BEST" person for the job.  His track record at VMI (10 years - 4 winning seasons; 6 losing seasons) does NOT give me a ton of confidence that he will be able to build a "winning tradition" at The Citadel.

I never played B-ball in HS or college, but have followed Citadel basketball for over 30 years, and agree w/ those that believe Doug Novak would be the "BEST" hire.

Time will tell and we'll see how this plays out.  I hope in 4 years we are not saying "I told you so", like w/ Chucky D.  In the meantime, I will support the new coach, until he proves that he was not the "right man for the job" (see Chucky D.)

I've been moderately keeping up with Novak ... He is doing well at Bethel University (as head coach, 19-8 this year ... .674 winning percentage over his first five).  That is at a DIII school ... His Assistant jobs stand out almost as much.

Do you or anyone have the money to buy out Duggar?  Otherwise, still too early to talk.  We aren't firing Duggar until his contract is up ... and he has the tournament and a season to prove out.  Regardless of what we think.  I think it is better time spent focusing on support to ensure recruiting and retention go well for next season.  Let that season play out and see what happens.

I know the school's policy is to honor contracts until the end and then just not renew/extend, but I think unless something miraculous happens in this years' tourney or 2019-20 season, we're looking at a new BB coach for 2020-21.

Let's hope for a miracle!

Agreed.  Until then, I hope to see Zane, Matt, and Lew finish with a bang!!
