Rivals.com doesn't think very highly of the SOCON or us. For that matter, I don't think very highly of Rivals. Here are their preseason rankings:

Not worried. I like taking the underdog role, but our boys will perform about this ranking this season.

If that is the case, & we lose to the teams ranked higher than us & beat the teams ranked lower, we should finish the season at 20 - 11.

Gotta love the expectations coming off a 20 plus win season...We would of killed for 5th place last year this time!!!

Is this the year The Citadel finally makes it to the Big Dance? I say, peak at the end of the season and let the chips fall where they may. It is tough to win the SOCON Tournament.

I don't think the SOCON gets a 2nd team into the NCAAs - gotta win the conference tourney.
Only way we get in w/o winning the tourney is:
1. Beat Houston & Texas A&M.
2. Play Mich St and WVU close.
3. Win 1 out of 2 or sweep CofC.
4. Beat everyone else.
That would mean going 28-3 on the season BEFORE the conference tourney. Even then, we would still need to get to the tourney finals to get an at large bid.
If we follow Rivals rankings, the only teams that we play that are in the top 100 are Mich St, WVU, Houston, Texas A&M , and CofC.

28-3 and making it to the finals of the SOCON tourney is what it would take for us to get an at large bid to the NCAA tourney. Losing to the teams ranked higher than us (Mich St, Texas A&M, Houston, WVU, CofC, WCU, Woffy & Samford), and only beating the teams ranked lower than us (which would give us a 20-11 record) will NOT get us in to the NCAAs unless we win the SOCON tourney.
