I know it's kind of early, but I was wondering if anyone had any news for this year's team? I try and follow as best as I can, but have lost touch. We have any new big players? It's time to contend for the SoCon again, we've been down lately.

citgrad08,
I wouldn't say our baseball team has been down and out lately.  They played their tails off in the tournament and were one game away from the championship game.  And in their first loss of the tournament, it was an amazing pitcher's duel.  The game could have gone either way.

The news I know of is that they have an experienced pitching staff returning, but there are still a lot of questions about who can replace the big bats they lost after last year-Jones and McGuiness.

They have been practicing for a couple weeks. Pitching looks good so far. Wojo, Talley, TJ Clarkson, Mahaffey and one of the freshman all look good. Reif not so much. I think he is going to get switched to catcher. Former football QB Cardwell looks good. The freshman infielder looks great.  Freshman catcher, not so much. I watched the scrimmage last weekend and he couldn't catch a breaking ball to save his life.

I spoke with a couple of players before the football game Saturday and asked about the team.  They had a couple of intrasquad scrimmages last week.  The #1 pitcher threw against the #2 pitcher and it ended up being a 1-0 game.  The other scrimmage was entirely different with multiple home runs being hit out of the Joe-don't know if that was due to poor pitching or powerful hitting.  But all in all they said the team looks good and they are confident they can play with anybody in the league.
