DAWGs drop game 1, 5 - 1.  Basically, the bats were completely shut down.

Instead of pitting our #1 starter against the opponents #1 starter, why don't we pitch our #3 against their #1 on Friday, our #1 against their #2 on Saturdays, & our #2 against their #3 on Sunday?

Seems this would give us at least a 50-50 chance to win 2 out of 3 every weekend.

Not a baseball strategist by any means, but that sounds doable. My guess is that you'd like to have the number 1 try to get the opener and maybe the players will play a little more loose on the weekend. Anyway, let's get after them today and tomorrow and see if we can make some noise during the second half of the socon season. Go Dogs!

DAWGS lose game 3, 6 - 5 & get swept.

After watching the games in this series, and many previous games:

1.  Our pitchers give away too many free passes (HBP & walks), especially to the 1st batter of the inning.  More times than not, those runners score, while we fail more times than not, to capitalize when given opportunities.

2.  Peden has to stretch either to his right or left on many throws from SS or 3rd on routine ground balls. Rarely is the throw right on the money.

3.  We fail to do the little things well, to wit:

In the bottom of the 6th, Woffy has runners on 1st & 3rd w/ 2 outs.  Runner on 1st breaks late for 2nd; Catcher throws down to 2b,but throw is high;  Runner on 3rd breaks for home when the catcher throws down to 2b;  SS catches the high throw from the C, fires home (off line & late), run scores, Woffy still has a runner on 2nd.  Should be inning over w/ no  runs scored.

In the top of the 7th, lead off batter gets single, & goes to 2nd on an errant pick off throw from the pitcher.  DAWGS have runner on 2nd, no outs, down 6 - 5.  It is imperative that the next batter hits the ball to the right side to advance the runner to 3rd.  This is baseball 101.  Instead, next 2 batters strike out, & the 3rd batter hits a weak pop up to 2b.  Ball game right there.

After Saturday's disaster, Wofford challenged the catcher and took advantage of another errant throw. Saw that one coming. Put the pressure on the defense and sometimes good things happen. No midweeks for a while so time to work on some fundamentals again. Pitching staff in total disarray, maybe settle those guys down a bit. Get after Furman next week. Go Dogs.
