His results were pretty consistent with those of all our previous volleyball coaches.  It's just damn near impossible to recruit high-level VB players to The Citadel.  The recruiting budget probably won't allow for it, but my suggestion if the funds were available would be to recruit in eastern Europe.  There are plenty of good players in Poland, Serbia, Croatia and Russia who would like to attend college in the United States.  How many of them would want a military education is a question I can't answer.

There are a lot of eastern European girls who have profiles on volleyball recruiting sites who are trying to play college VB in the United States.  Establishing initial contact with them shouldn't be too difficult. Getting them here might be a different matter.

Here's an article from Volleyball Magazine on the firing, along with some quotations from Mosqueda.

If they're on scholarship then the getting them to the US part isn't a problem (because ability to pay is a large part of the process of getting a student visa approved).

BTW - is cost the only factor which has us playing volleyball instead of softball?

I used to follow volleyball, but lost interest when Carolyn Geiger was fired. I just saw that Coach M had been released. I always believe the reason Caroly was let go was because the soccer team had a good record in 2010, but Carolyn did not. I think she was about to do better, but the powers that be thought if soccer could win, so could volleyball. I called Senter about her three years ago. She wanted to come back. I don't know where Carolyn is now. Maybe on to better things, but if she is still in Charleston and I was the new AD, I would call her. She was personable and the players liked her. She also was a good college player which gave her credibility. As the previous posts have mentioned, volleyball at the Citadel is a tough ticket. I once had a friend's daughter get a full ride and was going before a male classmate teased her about the haircut. If you go to high school volleyball games you will notice many of the girls have long hair. It is the toughest issue involved with female recruitment across the board.
