Had the pleasure to be at the Sumter/Manning Club meeting last night and get Coach Thompson's take on the upcoming season.  His bottom line - get your season tickets now. He is pleased with where the team is in the cyclical nature of recruiting and retention, and believes that the last 4 games of last season illuminated the changing tide of Citadel football. He is far more confident than he was when he saw us last year, and expectations are high. He is really optimistic on the new defense.

(and his take on meeting Nick Saban pregame and postgame last season is hilarious)

Definitely want to hear about this.
I remember seeing Coach Thompson speaking with Saban pre-game. Wondering what was said.

He said that an Ala assistant told him Saban would like to talk to him pregame, so he walked on over, wondering, "What am I going to say to this guy?".  Saban was acting as king and lord of his domain (Coach T said, as he should) and did all the talking with some obviously prepared points on how he noticed that the Cid offense was on a roll and had come back to win the last two games.  Then the conversation died, and there was a long awkward pause and they both walked off.  He said at the half the players were going bonkers in the locker, yelling and throwing things, and he figured he had better get them under control.  Told 'em let's get a take away and keep going, and of course they did on the opening kickoff.  The illegal procedure call annulling the FG was the turning point and things then went Alabama's way.  After the game, he was walking over for the handshake figuring that Saban would congratulate him on a good effort, but he figured wrong.  Said Saban quickly shook his hand and walked away without a word, leaving Coach T standing there.  Guess Saban was really P.O.'ed and embarrassed by his team's play.  Coach telling it in person made it hilarious, and doesn't translate to me recapping, but it was a great telling.

He did say that the Alabama fans were great and treated us well.  And he knocked of a bucket list item to coach against Bama in Tuscaloosa.

He is ready to go this year, and I can't wait.

I love Brent's honesty!

Did anyone ask Brent if they thought about going for it on the fourth down instead of kicking a field goal?

No, nobody asked about calls. He did talk about getting to the 5 yard line Wofford when speaking about being competitive in conference, and I was thinking about asking him why he threw it 4 times when we ran the ball to get there! But, coaches get paid to make judgment calls and theyou should have more knowledge about the situation than my arm chair coaching.

I believe were out of TO's and there were clock considerations.

Exactly. But we don't necessarily pass too well, and only had to bust a run against a team which was worn down and not stopping us. I know the logic was 4 plays if you need them, but didn't turn out too well. Still, coach knows what his situation is much better than arm chair QBs like me.

Well, in an indirect way, the Dogs got on the NFL Draft show.  That big TE from Bama, Irv Smith, that juked some of our guys out of his shoes for a 60 something yard TD reception was drafted tonight, and they showed that play.

Did they show Bamas no called block in the back towards the end of the TD run?

Brent went ballistic on the officials about that one.

They showed the whole play, so yeah it was in there.

Speaking of plays being called Bama's way, does anyone remember their first series, 2nd play I think, when the back was tackled and the ball came out?  On replay it was obvious to me that it was a fumble - ball was out before knees, elbows, anything touched the ground.  I was pumped when they went to commercial to review and was incensed when they came back and Bama was on the ball.  I was certain we had our first take away on about their 25 and would have been ready to score then.  I thought it was home cooking, but maybe I'm imagining things  . . .
