Paul Bowers is a leftist goose stepping prog.

Goebbels and Alinsky would be proud of their observant student. Under the cover of pointing out the alleged Robert E Lee saying being fake....his real purpose comes out at the end.

"Despite what a member of its own faculty has found four years ago, The Citadel has announced no plans to take the Lee quote out of the Guidon or to take the plagues down."

Really Paul Goebbels, who gives a crap that a very very small group of students in the sea of college students are sometimes required to site some made-up fake quote?  How about the 100's of thousands of students that are required to toe the communist-progressive line of thought in college classrooms or face academic ruin???

It’s true that the quote as it is cannot be attributed to Lee

But I’m not sure what the motivation for taking it down would be in that case

"The source of the quote, a letter that Lee purportedly wrote to his son in 1852, was exposed as a forgery in 1914 when University of Virginia law professor Charles Alfred Graves published a meticulous debunking in the Virginia State Bar proceedings. Even before Graves' scholarship, members of Lee's own family had expressed misgivings about the letter's authenticity. By some accounts, Lee himself denied he ever wrote it."

It may be true that the quote never appeared in "a letter that Lee purportedly wrote to his son in 1852", but that doesn't mean that Robert E. Lee never said "Duty is the sublimest word in the English language".

Hence, many publications still attribute the quote to him, and, it has never been proven that he did not SAY those words, just that they were not written in a letter to his son.

The problem there is that you can't prove a negative. We also can't prove that Lincoln didn't say, "You can't believe everything you read on the Internet." There is no reliable source that has him saying it. He did speak about duty though, and of course Lee could have said it, but that isn't the real point here.

Typically, quotes (especially if you are going to attribute them to someone on a bronze plaque somewhere) need to be reliably sourced.

I'm happy with the quote itself - it is a fundamental truth. But attributing it to Lee is unfair to his legacy, and it also gives our detractors ammunition to say that The Citadel still reveres the "mythical" version of Robert E. Lee.

When will a PC reporter interview an athlete whose name appears in the football program under The Citadel Brigadier Foundation listing for donors?

The big Opera singer's name comes to mind first.

Here's the real truth.  The "fact" that "The Citadel" exists at all really PISSES them OFF.  We do not have to say ONE single works, we simply have to exist and it sends them into shock and histrionics. They go to bed dreaming about revenge plots on us. They really want us ALL DEAD, the buildings burned down and plowed under, plain and simple.  That's the only way to explain their obsessive muck racking. If we had a plaque from Lee that said "On some days the sky can appear to be a blue color," they'd argue that it's mostly grey most of the time and it should be removed because "Lee was a racist bigoted scum bag who supported maintaining the institution of Slavery." Darwin failed us and let this group of idiots survive.  Like parasites they attach themselves to the host (us) and suck us down into the abyss. Hopefully we can begin to rid the host of the vermin, but I don't think they will ever go away.  They've gotten a taste of the power and the FREE 5HIT their movement supplies and have attached themselves to the host like one week old ticks.

Here's an idea:

Change all the plaques, replicas, etc to attribute it to "Anonymous"... Or better, yet, attribute it to "Someone With A Lot More Balls Than A Leftist Nut Job."

Although... pretty sure one would get a lot less media coverage.

Haha.

His Girlfriend beat him up then left him for a Citadel Man... that is more than likely the story.
