Seriously? The Corps had a 0530 PT run and no General Leave until further notice because a grad was hit by a water bottle during last nights beatdown? Did he really get police involved? A grad of The Citadel? A grown a$$ man? Dude, throw it back at them!!

I believe the bottle had water in it. Not just an empty bottle. With what I saw, I would have complained also.

It happened down in front of me, and the guy did get in a direct face shot with a full water bottle thrown from 25-30 yards away.  Really no call for that.
The run and restriction came from more than that though I believe.  The Corps was in a modified food fight throwing both food and full bottles and a lot of people were getting hit.  Heard that the Commandant pulleded the Regimental Commander off and gave her a chewing over it.  One thing in the messhall, another in front of the public.  (there were about 50 high school recruits sitting right next to them)

My understanding is the PT run will repeat and leave restricted until someone confessed to hitting the dude. Yes, inappropriate. But the reaction by the ‘victim’ seemed overblown as well.
Honestly, it’ll probably help recruiting. Bet the preknobs found it to be a highlight.

My wife and I were out to dinner tonight and there were two knobs eating near us.  So  I went over and asked them about it .  Same story, bottle thrown an 06 grad went crazy.  There was a regimental run at 0530 this morning which is not normal on Friday.  They were restricted to campus when normally since there was no parade today they could have left after their last class.  At 1400 it was lifted.  People were suppose to turn themselves in if they were involved and many did but the Commandant said too many knobs and turned themselves in.

We should recall a class ring.

I was in a suite and had a good view. When the bottle was launched and we saw it was like “uh-oh that one is going to hit a fan. Oh. Ooooooh!” I’m sorry the grad deserved it wearing his flipping field jacket to the game and a stupid looking straw hat.

Yes if you wear your field jacket after graduation to events you are a total tool of the 1st order. Cut the cord and move on with your life for God’s sake.

And this whole “food fight” started with upperclassmen throwing crap at knobs right?

That was my classmate that got hit.  He didn't call the cops.  EPI staff called the cops into it and he refused to really talk to them about the situation or be "checked out" by medical staff as they requested.  The rest is the result of the Commandant getting wind of the situation.

The bottle was pretty full.  Which I believe was the second bottle thrown.  My frustration with this ... normally we have our kids at the game.  Had that been a kid hit, what would you say?  (this was the predominance of the discussion with Paluso and police)  We want to feel like it is appropriate to bring our kids to these events.

Honestly, it is unprofessional behavior.  Keep the barracks behavior in the barracks.

Concur with BIGGUN on the jacket ... Odd though, when I was a cadet, alum wearing field jackets to games was more prevalent (maybe it was just for the homecoming game) ... I believe he received some discussion from the Corps on that as well.

Punishments like this used to be the norm I thought.  I remember having leave restricted by company or Corps-wide and "spirit runs" accordingly for like unprofessional/unacceptable behavior.  Are we saying we as alum now have lower expectations for the cadets?

If I could still fit in my field jacket I'd probably wear it for that reason alone

I was at a reception tonight and talk with commandant for the true details.  What he told me was different than what the knobs I talked with last night told me.  He said there were numerous bottles being thrown, most within the corps and that wasn't safe but then at least two were thrown into the regular crowd.  The cadet corps leadership was trying to get it stopped.  He said he was in the Regimental Commander face and said, "what are you going to do?"  She said we will have a regimental run tomorrow at 5:30 she runs 6:15 miles and set the pace Friday morning leading the corps at 7:15 mile.  They had extra stations in the middle of the parade ground (that is what is was called in my day) for anyone who dropped out and these stations involved extra physical activity.  Then everyone who threw a bottle had to come forward or the corps was restricted.  According to the commandant 4 seniors, 3 juniors, 4 sophomores and 4 knobs admitted to throwing bottles and restrictions were lifted at 1300.  Both the commandant and the president ran with the corps on Friday morning.

That’s how you do it! If you wanna “play” gotta be willing to pay the price! 102 tours here, should have been 250.

I'm not sure I get this at all. One, a Citadel supporter (or frankly any other attendee) at a JH event has the right to expect he or his family won't have debris thrown at them....especially by Cadets. And, geekish as some may think, wearing a field jacket and straw hat ought not invite an attack. Two, the Cadet(s) responsible were fortunate the incident didn't degenerate into something worse...like the guy that was hit coming up into the stands to kick but. Maybe I could be more understanding if things were thrown at the opposition...ala USC unsportsmanlike behavior...but really, aren't we better than that? Finally, true to form, a totally inappropriate overreaction by the Citadel that will not get to the problem...of course they can't help it, its part of the DNA and long standing tradition. I'd like to think when visitors come to JH its a total class and first class affair. To have an alum supporter treated this way by our Corps of Cadets disgust me.
By the way, at tip off of Mercer game last night I counted a total of 9 uniformed cadets; a few more came in later in PT gear. Maybe that's the level of interest from the Corps for Citadel athletic teams...entertain yourself by throwing stuff and clowning around when required to attend events, and, no interest in attending events when its voluntary. After watching the F'ball and B'ball teams this year, I'm sure they deserve better from the Corps than what they've seen in the last week.

I was hoping Paluso would bring the whole Corps after Waterbottlegate. It would have been good to get all 1000 Cadets in the Mac.
