Coach said it just couldn't be worked out with the Army. Said it wasn't feasible to go to Ranger school in December/after season was over.  Someone with Army knowledge could provide much more insight here.

Rangers/Special Forces school, are they the same thing?

Anyway, this was what was said by CBT.

given the continuing drawdown you wonder why the Army couldn't manage without one officer for a few months, there have been cases where some grads have had their commissioning delayed up to a year for various reasons.  Ranger and SF schools are separate, you have to be Ranger and Airborne qualified to even apply for SF training.

That's disgusting. I'm aware of a cadet who embarrassingly could not complete summer ROTC training, yet is allowed to repeat following graduation in an effort to pass. So failure is rewarded and success is not.

Did he take any Army scholarship or contract money....OR did he attend El Cid solely on an athletic scholarship?

I spent 5 years in the Army after graduation. If he is going Infantry, he should go to Infantry Officers basic course at Fort Benning then a series of other schools and then Ranger school. At least that's how it was in their 1990s. Back when I was in they ran those schools all the time throughout the year so I don't know what the deal is.

The Army is notoriously unaccommodating so this is no surprise. However it's the best thing for Goins no doubt. He went out on top and was one of the best players on the team. I will never forget his kicks against USC and Coastal. And that tackle at WBS.

Good for him and Godspeed.

Goins is the first kicker I can remember when field goals we're highly probable and extra points were essentially automatic. He took the stress out of kicking for scores. Thanks Eric and God speed!

As far as kickers go, Godek had a 54 and 57 yarder this season. Not bad.
Thought we might be looking for a couple more LBs.

RB is not a current need as we are very deep.  We only lost Vinny Miller to graduation.  Rod Johnson (RS Freshman) will more than fill that gap.  SCHS offensive player of the year who is on his visit this weekend can play RB as well and not just QB.  (If he commits)

Biggest need this year is LB and OL depth and kicker
Possible starting 4 backs next year:

Dom QB RS Jr
Cam SB RS Jr
Johnson  SB RS FR
Renew VB Sr.
