From Southern Pigskin:

http://www.southernpigskin.com/socon/week-eleven-socon-award-winners/

Highlighting the top players in the SoCon during week eleven.

Offensive Player of the Week: The Citadel’s Brandon Rainey rushed for 206 yards on 25 carries with one touchdown to lead The Citadel over Samford 42-27.  Rainey’s 60-yard touchdown run early in the 4th quarter gave The Citadel their first lead of the day 28-27 after falling behind 21-0 before halftime.

Defensive Player of the Week: Furman’s Adrian Hope continued his great late season play leading the Paladins defense with 6 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 2 sacks and a forced fumble beating VMI 49-13.

McCord had that kind of game against Samford, not VMI. WTH?

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its football players of the week Monday for all games played Nov. 10. The Citadel claimed two of the awards after a big win over Samford, with quarterback Brandon Rainey earning Offensive Player of the Week honors and defensive back Aron Spann III taking Defensive Player of the Week honors.

On top of a 4 touchdown Saturday for him, isn't Lorenzo Ward's dad the new interim HC at Louisville?

Big week in the Ward household.  Now if he can score a TD in Tuscaloosa, and his can get a win . . . . .

While trying to keep the Rainey hype to a low boil I thought I would post these numbers:

The Citadel QB Rushing Yards in a Single Game

Gene Brown   1988       286 yards
Brandon Rainey  2018    217 yards
Jack Douglas    1990      200 yards
Aaron Miller      2014      197 yards
Brandon Rainey    2018     188 yards

Saturday night after the game I thought the stats said 206 or so, they must have revised them sometime this week.

^^^ The season that could have been.

I must say, in Quarter 1 Saturday, I began to wonder if Brent had lost the confidence of the team. Following the win, I’d say this was his best coaching job since taking the role. What a difference it should make heading into the next two weeks and 2019.

I've seen a couple of reports that Rainey set the record for rushing yards by a Bulldogs quarterback, which is obviously incorrect. Gene Brown's day at the Oyster Bowl (on only 15 carries!) is still the standard in that category.

For at least 3 more days he has the record for average rushing yards per game for a quarterback.  LOL

I agree the level of talent on Samfords team should have both had a better season and not let us come from behind and win.

Also it was noted their conditioning failed in the 3/4th quarters as we kept their Defense on the field longer than they were used too.

I remember that Oyster Bowl well. During that period, we referred to our offense as "GBL, GBR"

Gene Brown Left, Gene Brown Right
