Easier to bash Bama than give the Dogs their credit. Dropped Bama down in his rankings due to strength of schedule.

I think we should troll Finebaum until the end of the season.
Call his show. Troll him on Twitter. Just get in his face. We as Citadel guys should know how to do that.

“The Citadel may have just posted the most dominant 33-point loss in the history of college football. The Bulldogs were tied with Bama at the half. They held the ball for 36 minutes against Alabama. Maybe you wanted to go to watch Tua Tagovailoa play in Tuscaloosa, random Alabama fan? TOO BAD, TIME TO WATCH FORMER HIGH SCHOOL WIDE RECEIVER BRANDON RAINEY RUN A QB KEEPER 25 TIMES FOR MIGHTY CITADEL.

The Citadel lost by fewer points to Alabama than Arkansas, Ole Miss, or Tennessee did. Better still: They scored more points than LSU did against Bama, and LSU was playing at home.

The Citadel is now no worse than like, fourth in the SEC West, and possibly better in the SEC East, if I’m going to be honest. Go Bulldogs.”

ESPN story:

David M. Hale

"Years from now, your children will tell stories of the day Alabama was tied with The Citadel at halftime.

Deep within the Amazon, there are tribes that have never had human contact that, nevertheless, took shelter amid fears the world was ending because Alabama allowed 130 yards and two touchdowns to a running back from The Citadel.

Theoretical physicists spent much of Saturday on a conference call, with the only possible explanation for the events in Tuscaloosa being that we're all part of an artificial universe created by some superintelligent machine, and The Citadel's 10 first-half points represented an obvious glitch in the matrix.

Sure, the end result was a 50-17 Alabama win, another dominant performance on the scoreboard en route to another week atop the rankings. But for 30 glorious, strange, miraculous minutes, this was a real game, and The Citadel gave Alabama all it could handle."

Finebaum gave us a ton of good pub after the USC game, but we WON the game. He has never been one of those commentators to applaud good effort or moral victories. To insist that the glass-half-empty Finebaums of the world give us more “respect” is like UCF claiming a national championship—it rings a little hollow.....like a little brother on the playground

The half-time tie was remarkable and will be noteworthy if Bama goes on to an undefeated season, beats the remaining teams by more than they did us, wins the FBS NC, and is considered one of the GOAT college FB teams.....but it will still be a footnote—a trivia question.

Had we won, it would have been the greatest upset victory of all time in sports complete with a ESPN 30 for 30 and so on.....bigger than App St......on par with, maybe even better than the Olympic hockey “miracle.” As it stands, we should enjoy the fact that we held serve with the undisputed #1 team in the land and defending NC, but we’re also a team that needs to improve to be in the mix for a FCS conference run next year.

And before that...we need to beat Charleston Southern convincingly on Saturday or the Bama performance will appear to be a fluke let down by the Tide rather than a gutsy performance by an improving Bulldog squad.

BUT.....Bama fan “FunnyMaine” Johnson’s weekly game summary gives us good props.......enjoy.

Love that video, the RRO offense (run, run option) steadily ate up some time in the first half and then the option to the outside went the distance.

https://slate.com/culture/2018/11/the-citadel-alabama-tie-first-half.html

“Going into halftime with the score tied against Alabama should count for more than a moral victory. Just look at some of the first-half beat-downs the Crimson Tide has administered this season:

Louisville: 28-0

Arkansas State: 40-0

Ole Miss: 49-7

Mississippi State: 21-0

Up until Saturday, LSU’s 16-point halftime deficit was the narrowest Alabama managed all season. Adding to the surprise is the fact that The Cidtadel is a second-half team, at least according to Saban. “The last couple of games they’ve outscored their opponents dramatically in the second half,” he told reporters on Monday. “That’s what happened last week in Samford, they’re way [behind] in the game, the last two games, 24-10, 24-7, I think, and came back and won both of those games.”

The second half couldn’t have started any better for the Bulldogs, confirming Saban’s fears, and they forced an Alabama fumble during the kickoff return. They had an opportunity to kick a field goal and be the first team to take a lead on the Crimson Tide since last season’s national championship game, but, alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The kicker missed, and Alabama went on to score touchdowns on its ensuing five possessions.

But that’s not important. What matters is that the unheralded team from South Carolina accomplished what no one else in the country has been able to do all year. They inconvenienced Alabama enough to ruin its leisurely halftime plans, and that alone should be worth a spot in the College Football Playoff.“

We got 500K for the playing the game and about 500K in free press. All in all, it was a win in 2 out of 3 categories.

It would have gone in stages. If we had made that FG without the false start. You could probably add another million in free press. If we had been within 7 points or tied going to the 4th quarter, everybody would have been tuned in, even non-CFB fans. Make that FG and that was possible. Then, who knows.
